The New school at Mount Richmore almost ready for learners

The New school at Mount Richmore almost ready for learners

Date: 2013-11-15
The new Curro Mt Richmore School is almost complete and will be ready for opening in January 2014.

The building started in March this year and has been completed in a relatively short time. The reason this could be achieved is that Curro uses a dedicated team who builds all their schools. "MNK Projects builds all our schools," said Karen Edley, Regional Marketer for Curro Holdings.

The campus is made up of 52 classrooms and 4 large labs which will be used for Computers and Life Sciences. A further 20 classrooms and 4 more labs will be built during 2014/2015. The spacious school hall has a mezzanine level and extra foyer space.

Sports facilities include 4 tennis courts, an 8-lane 25m pool and two sports fields. The nursery school will be built in early 2015 and will take in children from 3 months to 5 years. Until then the main campus will house the Grade RRR and RR groups.

Learners will write the IEB exams and extra programmes are brought into the curriculum such as Robotics. Robotics forms part of the Life orientation syllabus for the younger grades and part of the Science & Technology Curriculum for the higher grades.

Mr Steve Cromie, Executive Head, said, "We aim to prepare children to be independent thinkers, and to teach them 21st century skills," he added, "School must be a fun place where children want to go each day."

The school is built on the expansive Mt Richmore Estate. Further plans for the Estate include more housing, commercial ventures, medical centres and a hotel.

Curro Holdings is the parent company of all Curro Private Schools. The company's role is to establish new private schools and to back each school with a solid management team experienced in the field of education. This creates the sustainability needed to ensure an on-going level of excellence in teaching the leaders of tomorrow. Curro Holdings Head Office is based in Cape Town and the company's vision is to own 80 schools by 2020.
