Christopher Duigan in My Favourite Things

Christopher Duigan in My Favourite Things

Date: 2019-11-29

Pianist Christopher Duigan presents an entertaining and varied choice of personal favourites for his November concert series enticingly entitled My Favourite Things to be performed in Kloof, Durban, Howick, Pietermaritzburg and Ballito over the end of November and early December.

There will be a Ballito concert for North Coast Music lovers on Monday 2 December 7:00 pm at Grace Hall, Ashton International College

"This compilation brings together many musical threads across a multitude of genres," considers Duigan. It is a series of reflections on a multi-faceted concert pianist's career.

The programme will be presented loosely in mini-themes - such as 'Composers I love to play' and 'The most compelling music I know', the selection includes bold contrasts of melody, rhythm and harmony. This pianistic 'tour de force' also traverses the music of ragtime king Scott Joplin, and swaggers through a dollop of sultry South American tango, both Brazilian and Argentine. From the classical repertoire he includes Mozart's 'Turkish Rondo', Rachmaninoff's celebrated 'Prelude in C-sharp minor', music by Ravel, Beethoven, Chopin and Schumann.

From the 'not so classical' volumes he plays Joplin's 'Maple Leaf Rag' and 'The Easy Winners', Joseph Lamb's 'Frog Legs Rag', 'La Cumparsita', and tangos by Julian Plaza. Music from Brazilian Ernesto Nazareth, which Duigan has championed for a number of years, completes the South American selection.

Booking for all three events is at booking@musicrevival.co.za or Music Revival 083 417 4473 (sms or WhatsApp only). Seating is unreserved.
