Gardening In High Heels!

Gardening In High Heels!

Date: 2018-07-20

The Umhlanga Women Achievers held their annual charity fundraiser at Gateway Hotel recently, with funds raised at the event going to Blue Sky Society Trust and their Trees4KZN initiative, with their mission to plant indigenous trees at over 50 underprivileged schools around KZN.

In line with the theme, Guest Speaker for the event was South African Gardening guru, author, TV host and businesswoman, Tanya Visser.

Tanya, who has an exceptional following in the gardening, home cooking and online shopping industry gave a humorous, thought provoking talk on gardening, pointing out that you can teach skill but you can never teach passion.

She grew up with a passion for gardening - but definitely not in high heels, which, she pointed out were only good for aerating the lawn before spring arrives!

Hot tips from Tanya: The best monkey deterrent A motion sensor built into the sprinkler.

If we want to take charge of our health, we need to grow what we eat - or know the source from where our organic produce comes from.

Don't grow your herbs in pots on windowsills. They need to be outside in the sunshine. Our climate is ideal for growing herbs.

"The word Garden in Hebrew means paradise, and there's a good reason for that - walk barefoot on the lawn, it will make you feel good. If you're feeling unhappy, spend time in the garden to lift your mood - gardening gets you going."

"It is a constant in your life. It can transport you back to an amazing place, and most of all, plants connect future generations." Concluded Tanya.
