I"Anger may seem to be a source of energy, but it's blind. It causes us to lose our restraint. It may stir courage, but again it's blind courage. Negative emotions, which often arise from a spontaneous impulse, cannot be justified by reason, whereas positive emotions can. Scientists suggest that constant anger and hatred undermine our immune system. Compassion, bringing inner strength, is good for our health." Dalai Lama
As our nation prepares for revolt against Zuma, I am staying calm. I do not think that staying away from work is going to achieve anything except maybe pull our country into a bigger mess than it already is.
Having spoken to some seriously enlightened minds in our government, I know that things are looking bleak, but I also know that we are still a lot better off than Americans or Syrians or North Koreans, and that makes me kind of hopeful.
There are many whispers circulating in the passages of government buildings and everyone I have spoken to basically believes what makes them feel good and what sounds more plausible.
There is some serious bullsheet being thrown around. People inciting violence and expecting us to follow their blind commands like sheep. All the people who are working for a boss will be taking that long weekend off, believe me, Black Friday is such a fabulous excuse to not go to work! While all the already stressed and overstretched business owners will be working their butts off to pay the bills.
Go on blame it on Zuma! Lets have another Public Holiday
I am petrified of the mess we are in. The Junk Status is going to make it so much harder for all of us to do business, however what makes me very hopeful is that this last shenanigan from Zuma has brought our nation together.
Blacks, Indians Coloured - we all feel equally screwed by Jacob, at least there is no racism in this action.
Even our beloved continent felt the tremors of Jacob's demise. Monday's earth tremors hit a moderate 5.2 magnitude. It felt a little bit like a collective sigh from everyone who just read about S&P Global Ratings downgrading us to junk status.
Its so sad really because South Africans deserve so much better, we really do. We have been so patient and accepting. We obeyed and adhered. We transformed and turned our other cheek - for what!
And while we were all reeling in the cabinet reshuffle nightmare, most of us missed one of the most important decisions made by our government. The bill to decriminalise Marihuana has been passed last Friday, which means that you can now consume the weed in the comfort of your own lounge and not be prosecuted.
It gives so many cancer and terminally ill patients hope that they can prolong their lives and have a better quality of life. While there is still a few of you out there that do not believe in the medicinal uses of marihuana, my advice to you, "Don't mock it until you try it."
Let us stay united through this dark period, like my father always tells me; "This too, my darling, will pass"
