Hlengiwe Dube with her brother, Mzwandile (centre) and Professor Amos Maphumulo, of the KwaZulu-Natal Heritage Council, at the annual Amafa Heritage Awards ceremony in Pietermaritzburg last Friday, where individuals, organisations and traditional communities were recognised for their contribution to preserving the heritage of the Province.

Ms Dube received an award for her contribution to developing traditional arts and crafts in both rural and urban areas. Other award-winners were: Debbie Whelan (the heritage of Georgetown and Edendale); the Shaka's Kraal Heritage Group (Indian heritage); Dr Gcina Mhlope (traditional story-telling); Eckhard von Fintel (German heritage); the African Conservation Trust (rock art mapping); the Mthethwa Traditional Authority (erecting a monument to the clan); the Verulam Historical Society (housing of historical documents); and Professor Tim Maggs (archaeological work).
