Balitto Lions Club

Balitto Lions Club

Date: 2016-05-06
Ballito Lions Club and fellow Lions from the greater Durban area started over two years ago planning the Dolphin Coast Convention at La Montagne and Braeside. This is the 59th year of Lionism in Southern Africa and we celebrate its annual Convention over 6 and 7 May. Lions from Multiple District 410, which includes South Africa, Namibia, Lesotho and Swaziland, gather to elect new leadership, make decisions for its members and enjoy fellowship. During their stay Lions will enjoy the hospitality of Ballito and its surrounds. Convention includes a Gala Banquet where our Citizen of the Year is announced. It is a closely guarded secret and the candidate is chosen for their contribution to the community they live in.

This person is selected from candidates put forward by clubs in the host district, this being KZN and the Free State.

This year over 300 like minded men and women will call Ballito their home for several days. Days filled with meetings, conventions and much fun. Fellowship is an integral part of being a Lion.

Our international guest is International Director Sanjay Khetan and his wife, Sangeeta, also a Lion, from Birganj, Nepal.

Lions are groups of service-minded men and women who work together to strengthen their communities. They are also part of something bigger, a worldwide network of dedicated volunteers in over 46,000 clubs in 240 countries or geographical areas. Lions Clubs International is the largest service club organization in the world. Our 1.4 million members perform valuable service all over the globe. Lions are friends, family and neighbours who share a core belief: community is what we make it.

For nearly 100 years, Lions clubs have served their communities and touched the lives of millions of people. The Centennial Service Challenge is a humanitarian initiative that brings Lions clubs around the world together in service to celebrate the association's 100th anniversary in 2017.

For three and a half years, Lions clubs will work to achieve the goal of serving at least 100 million people by participating in the association's Global Service Action Campaigns, which support youth activities, vision programs, hunger initiatives, and environmental projects around the world.

The Lions Club of Ballito are involved in several projects uplifting the local communities including the ever popular Soap Box Derby, the Ithemba Labasha Community day where folk of all ages entertained the children, a Golf day, and a Walk to raise breast cancer awareness and funds.

In addition to our motto of “We Serve”, Lions have a saying...Where there's a need, there's a Lion.
