Celebrating five years of Eastern Evening: Taking Flight

"And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music."

Last Saturday the Virginia Airport was turned into a Bollywood scene, complete with a food extravaganza, spectacular dance performances by Rampage Dance Company and a party zone for those lucky enough to attend this prestigious event.

The Rampage Dance Company put together an exquisite display of culture and dance performances at the final quarterly Eastern Evening. The aroma of rich food and pungent spices transformed Virginia Airport into a venue like no other.

Shanil Parbhoo is Head of Logistics and Hospitality of Rampage Dance Company, he and his team collectively constructed this function, creating a stage for international Indian dance choreographer, Iqraam Rahim to exhibit his passion for live performances.

Performers seen on stage ranged from the ages of 5 years old to 35, each having practiced their moves for weeks to get the rhythm just right and take part in the evening's program.

Rampage Dance Company orchestrated a night filled with exhilarating sound and breath taking lights that had the audience glued to their seats absorbing the astounding recital.

The laser show, lighting and decor took four weeks to prepare, and the hugely talented dancers were given just 10 days to practice their moves. "We encourage our performers to act freely on stage, allowing them to bring their own individuality and expression in to the performance," said Iqraam Rahim, Choreographer of Rampage Production.

"There is a rich Indian culture in South Africa that is hidden away and needs to be expressed and brought on to the stage. Through the careful planning and coordination of Magic Lightning, Odyssey Sound and Lighting, Rampage Dance Company, Roti and Chai, Eastern Elegance and Pan African Pyrotechnics, a night filled with jaw dropping displays and entertainment was created. There are still two more events to come, 'Secret Sunrise Bollywood', which is to be announced in September." Concluded Shanil Parbhoo.
