Tribute to Whitney Houston
"I am deeply saddened by the passing of Whitney Houston. She will forever be remembered for her beauty, grace and amazing talent. In this tribute concert, I wish to remember her through the music I have grown to love. Together with Mark Royeppen (piano), Mazwakhe Gumede (bass), Bruce Baker (drums) and Linda Sikhakhane (saxophone) we have put together a programme which includes many of her great hits," explains the award winning local vocalist.
Rungan credits Whitney Houston as the super star that inspired her own career which has taken her from Africa to the United States, Scotland, Sweden and Australia where she has performed with a number of musical greats. She has recorded two solo albums - her debut Love is, in 2008 and now, Natalie - This Is Me.
Through this tribute show, Rungan echoes the words of the Houston hit "I Will Always Love You". "Whitney Houston was a super star. She made hit after hit. Her voice was just magical. She is probably the reason I started dreaming about being a singer. Like her, my influence in music started at an early age in church. I loved performing her songs. As I discovered my own singing talent, I learnt every note, every inflection and tried my best to do it how she did."
The two shows - on April 27 and 28 - cost R180 per person. This includes a buffet dinner from 6.30 pm with the show following at 8pm. For more information contact uShaka Marine World on 031-3288000.
