Keenan Ahrends Trio Comes to KZN
The Keenan Ahrends Trio consists of Romy Brauteseth (bass) and Claude Cozens (drums). These fine musicians will be performing Ahrends' original music in cities across South Africa.
This young musician has been a rising presence on the South African jazz scene for the last ten years. After his studies at the South Africa College of Music and the Norwegian Academy of Music, he has gone on to perform with the likes of Louis Moholo, Andile Yenana, Buddy Wells, Afrika Mkhize, Bokani Dyer and Kevin Gibson.
The Keenan Ahrends trio tour is made possible by the Concerts SA Mobility Fund - a funding mechanism which offers opportunities for South African musicians to undertake live music tours. Administered by Concerts SA, a joint South African / Norwegian project housed under the auspices of the Stakeholder Hub within The SAMRO Foundation; it receives financial, administrative and technical support from the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, SAMRO and Concerts Norway.
Keenan Ahrends is a Cape Town based Jazz guitarist who started playing at the age of 15. After completing his jazz performance studies at the University of Cape Town and the Norwegian Academy of Music in 2009, Ahrends has been actively involved in performing, composing and teaching. During his tertiary studies, he studied under Jon Eberson, Eckhard Baur, Alvin Dyers, Andrew Lilly, and Mike Campbell.
Ahrends has been commissioned to compose works for the Cape Town Goema Orchestra (2012, 2013 & 2014) and regularly performs his compositions with his own trio.
