Mayor sends condolences to families of rail carnage victims

Mayor sends condolences to families of rail carnage victims

Date: 2015-08-28
Last Friday KwaDukuza Mayor Ricardo Mthembu has extended words of condolences to the families who lost their loved ones in a tragic taxi crash which happened in Shakashead, KwaDukuza on Monday, 17 August 2015.

"We are very saddened to learn of the sudden demise of sixteen people within our Municipality. We have come to learn that most of the victims depart at their most youthful and productive ages of their lives and this causes us even more grief".

The victims were travelling in a mini-bus from Ballito in the N2 off-ramp in Shakashead where it plunged the embankment and landed over at the railway and got ran over by a train.

A total of sixteen people have died, three others are still hospitalised.

The MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Mr Willies Mchunu, has instructed that the matter be investigated in full to determine the cause of the carnage.
