Sal Masekela and Dr Albertinia Luthuli at community swimming pool opening at Shaka's Head

Sal Masekela and Dr Albertinia Luthuli at community swimming pool opening at Shaka's Head

Date: 2019-07-05

International action sport commentator Sal Masekela, the son of jazz great Hugh Masekela, pictured with children from Ubuntu Learn to Surf and Swim Club, at the opening of the community swimming pool at Shaka's Head on Sunday, June 30. The children had a unique opportunity of swimming and engaging with Sal during the opening. Sal is the event ambassador for the 2019 Ballito Pro presented by O'Neill and is on an African Surf Adventure around KwaDukuza to embrace all that the area has to offer.

The progeny of two South African stalwarts, Dr Albertina Luthuli, daughter of Africa's first Nobel Peace Prize winner Nkosi Albert Luthuli, and Salema "Sal" Masekela the son of legendary jazz musician Hugh Masekela ponder upon their iconic fathers' contributions in shaping the history of South Africa, sitting on the bench where Chief Luthuli and US Senator Robert F Kennedy once sat in 1966.
