Besides the number 108 having so much auspicious significance, the Peugeot 108 that I test-drove raised my eyebrows in appreciation somewhat.
It was more than the French attention to good looks that the new Peugeot has been blessed with, the amount of tech they have allocated to the 108 really moves the model up in the world. A large 7" touchscreen dominates the dash, just the way it should, and the connectivity options will allow almost anybody to get linked up. It was really easy to connect and change phones and run Apple Car Play and even Mirror Screen. All you car settings and trip information is accessed through this screen as well.
The aircon was a welcome element with the summer kicking in and the gutsy VTi 50kW motor was perfectly matched to its five speed manual gearbox. The economy figures they have achieved with this 3-cylinder engine are inspiring.
Add to the offering things like Hill Assist and a Tyre Pressure Warning light, and driver assist technology with Peugeot's Active City Brake that reads road signs with the camera mounted on the windscreen, and the 108 takes on a whole new perspective.
The Peugeot 108 just upped the bar in its market segment.
