Formule 1 Grand Prix Du Canada

Formule 1 Grand Prix Du Canada

Date: 2016-06-17
At the start of the Formula 1 Grand prix Du Canada in Montreal on Sunday it looked as though Mercedes-Benz were gifting the first place podium to Ferrari when both Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg floundered and Lewis Hamilton surged flew into first place.

As if that wasn't enough for the Mercedes-Benz garage to witness the two drivers touched wheels in the first corner in what was a potentially fatal move for their chances of winning the race.

Then the race was on and once again the tyre strategy played a huge role as did Lewis Hamilton's incredible ability to preserve his super softs, which he did for 46 laps. Ferrari's temperature gauge must have been faulty and so Hamilton pulled out all the stops and took the checkered flag. Hamilton's team mate Rosberg seemed to be continuing his steak of bad luck as his recovery from a poor start saw him bumped aside by Lewis and dropped to ninth position.

The Williams Mercedes team brought their fine tuned FW38 to the day and followed Mercedes' lead in a one-stop strategy that paid off and gave Valtteri Bottas the team's first podium of the season.

So at the end of the day it was Lewis Hamilton followed by Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel and Valtteri Bottas in third place.

So the championship points standing sees Lewis encroaching on Rosberg's lead of 116 with 107 points. Vettel holds onto third with 78, Ricciardo in fourth with 72 and Raikkonen just behind him with 69.

Next its off to Europe where Azerbaijan becomes the latest venue in Formula 1 from the 17th to the 19th of June.
