Advent Music for Trumpet and Organ
An evening of magnificent music for trumpet and organ with a seasonal Advent theme, will be performed in the beautiful St Thomas Church in Musgrave Road, by Jonas Brolin (trumpet) and Margrit Deppe (organ) on Monday 20 December at 5.30pm.
Advent – the four weeks leading up to Christmas - is a time of waiting with solemnity and joyous expectation, and typically allows us to prepare for the real meaning of Christmas. Globally, churches and homes symbolically light candles on Advent wreathes weekly until Christmas.
To honour this auspicious time, some beautiful hymns, meditative music and joyous and life-affirming rousing pieces have been created to celebrate Advent – many created for organ and trumpet.
Margrit Deppe and Jonas Brolin have chosen an interesting mix of some of the best loved Advent music to perform in a one off sun-downer concert on Monday 20 December – to herald the last week of Advent.
Maggie Deppe currently works as piano tutor at Clifton School, Morningside and is a freelance oboist with various ensembles in South Africa. She completed a Masters Degree in oboe Performance at UKZN in 2010 as well as a Diploma in Church Music in 2020-2021. She works as organist for Our Lady of Lourdes in Westville.
Jonas Brolin grew up in Sweden and started playing trumpet in the local wind band at the age of nine. After finishing studies at the Royal academy of Music, Denmark and London college of Music and Media, UK. Jonas has as a chamber/orchestra musician and soloist performed all over Europe, US, Russia and Asia. Jonas currently holds the principal chair of KZNPO.
Deppe will perform pieces for solo Organ by Johann Sebastian Bach; Rosalie Bonighton and Vincent Luebeck.
