Through my eyes

Through my eyes

Date: 2019-11-08

The Bokke did us proud this weekend.

There was so much pride and unity, we all felt as we united together to support our rugby team in Japan.

This week we can say, "We are the champions." We are united in our victory. We are standing together as a nation, bowing our heads in appreciation and gratitude to our amazing sportsmen as well as the populace.

There is no better way to be motivated than to see your team win, because no matter how we look at it, in some way we are all winners with the Boks and we can all revel in their greatness.

I have never seen so many tear stained faces as I saw at this particular game. Springboks captain Siya Kolisi gave an extraordinary speech after South Africa won the Rugby World Cup, saying the win offered hope to our country, and he was so right.

We all feel torn apart by the unjust way that our country is being wrenched apart with violence, maladministration, fraud, load-shedding and just general deflation. We are all strained under the rising cost of living, and while we are all doing whatever we can to keep it together, life for many is worse today than it was 25 years ago.

Kolisi urged us to use the triumph as an example, he said, "So many problems in our country, but to have a team like this ... we know we come from different backgrounds, different races, and we came together with one goal and wanted to achieve it. I really hope that we've done that for South Africa, to show that we can pull together if we want to work together and achieve something."

What Siya was trying to tell us is that we can achieve anything if we work together as one. This victory couldn't have come at a better time. This will have a significant impact on our country.

The change came to the team when Rassie Erasmus told the players to make rugby their main focus. Siya said, "He told us straight; it has to change, the shift has to come, rugby is more important; the Springboks are more important than our personal goals and as soon as the team does well good things will come. There are so many people who spend their last salary to come and see us play. They want to see us give our best on and off the field. Understanding that was the change of mind-set, and we started working hard; a lot of us got off social media to make sure we put our hearts and souls into it, and we challenged each other."

We all need some motivation in our lives, the question I often ask myself is "How much are you willing to commit regardless " its my life motto, understanding that whatever I want to achieve in life I have to commit to it 2000%, all or nothingthat's the challenge! Changing our mind-set and believing we can do anything is the big challenge but we can achieve anything we want and dream if only we commit to it and go after what we want.

Congratulations South Africa!
