Sandy Segal St Augustine's Hospital Blanket drive

Sandy Segal St Augustine's Hospital Blanket drive

Date: 2015-06-12
For the past three years Netcare has organised a blanket drive in June, to benefit those less fortunate over the cold winter season. The drive is named after the late Sandy Segal, a former Netcare staff member, who lost her battle to cancer in 2013.

According to Augusta Dorning, General Manager for Netcare St Augustine's, ''Sandy was our CSI champion and gave of herself selflessly over the years, championing many causes such as Habitat for Humanity. Sandy was a caring, warm person who embraced everyone she encountered.''

The aim of the drive is for the 56 Netcare Hospitals to collect a combined total of 5000 blankets and distribute them to charities in their area.

Netcare St Augustine's, with the guidance of Compass Waste Services, has chosen the Robin Hood Foundation as their benefiting charity. The Robin Hood Foundation celebrates ten years of blessing the rich by giving to the poor. They work tirelessly to ensure that resources get into the hands of those who need them most.

''We are so excited to be the chosen charity as the much needed blankets will be distributed through our 'Love the Babies' and 'Gogo Bag' projects which will ensure that new-born and the elderly are kept warm this winter,'' explains Kim Griffith Jones, coordinator of the Robin Hood Foundation.

Compass Waste Services, suppliers of health care waste products and a professional health care risk waste management company, have donated blankets to the drive and encourage others to do the same. ''It would be fantastic if the goal of 5000 blankets can be reached and so we urge businesses and individuals to donate, what they can, into the collection containers positioned at St Augustine's reception area before the 22nd June,'' concludes Taryn Murdey, Marketing executive for Compass.
