Tafta Movie Night fundraiser to raise funds for Elders' Christmas Meals

Tafta Movie Night fundraiser to raise funds for Elders' Christmas Meals

Date: 2019-11-15

The Association for the Aged has launched sales of its third and final Old School Movie night fundraiser for 2019 at the Durban Country Club following the sell-out success of previous fundraisers earlier this year.

To add to the Christmas spirit, a Christmas themed night market selling Christmas goodies, and several new food stalls will be added to the lineup, with the main attraction being the evening's movie, Christmas with the Kranks.

According to Tafta CEO Femada Shamam, Tafta's movie night has become a highlight on the organisation's events calendar.

"Tafta movie night has become synonymous with the creation of an intergenerational bonding space, and we're thrilled that both the young and old have come to anticipate our next event with such enthusiasm. It gives us, as an organisation, the opportunity to raise funds and a platform to educate the community about the work we do," she said.

The next movie night will raise funds towards Tafta's Christmas Campaign, which encourages members of the public to sponsor close to 2 000 three-course Christmas meals to Tafta elders, community club and wellness centre members. Apart from the movie ticket purchase, members of the public are therefore encouraged to sponsor meals when purchasing their movie tickets online at https://www.quicket.com or simply donate to the cause.

The Association has also lined up a few lucky draw prizes like dinner and coffee and cake vouchers for those attending the event.

As an organisation steeped in elder care over 60 years, Tafta is the only organisation of its kind in South Africa; last year our social workers responded to the needs of 4 497 elders, providing accommodation to over 2 000 Elders and admitting 44 people into our frail care facilities; a further 362 received care in their own homes through our Ageing in Place programme. We delivered 14413 Meals on Wheels and 23932 visits were done by caregivers for the home based care programme.
