I love cheese platters. They are one thing that always make every occasion a memorable on. A sweet and sour chutney is a perfect condiment for any cheese platter and the guava chutney is simply delectable.

Autumn is time for guavas the Verulam market is filled with the aromatic scents of the guava fruit and they are ripe for eating. While most enjoy guava fruit raw, here is another way to enjoy guava fruit as a condiment and an edition to any meal.

I was fortunate enough to find these small China guavas, which are so extraordinary in flavour and are fabulous ingredient for this recipe. However using normal guavas is also perfectly fine.

Ingredients:

2 cups of guava, diced and seeded

3 fresh hot chillies

5-6 cloves of garlic

10-12 curry leaves

? teaspoon methi powder

1 Tbsp chillie powder

2 Tbsp honey

1 Tbsp apple cider vinegar

1Tbsp sesame oil

? teaspoon salt

Directions:

Heat the oil in a heavy saucepan add all the dry spices and curry leaves, toast until golden brown and fragrant.

Keep heat on low-medium, toss chopped guava, green chillies and garlic. Add salt, mix well, cover and cook for 10min until guava is soft but not mushy.

Add the honey and vinegar and cook for further 2-3 min until all nicely incorporated.

Taste your chutney and add more seasoning to your liking. Remove from the stove and cool. Store in glass jar in the fridge. Perfect for up to 10 days in the fridge.
