'Women in Singing' to premiere at The Playhouse

'Women in Singing' to premiere at The Playhouse

Date: 2014-05-23
Gcugcwa Productions in association with The Playhouse Company proudly presents the premiere staging of a brave new production titled Women in Singing.

This will be performed in the Playhouse Loft Theatre from Wednesday 11 June to Sunday 15 June 2014.

The upbeat new musical focusses on women who have been abused spiritually and physically. Instead of bemoaning their unhappy situations, they have decided to come together with a positive attitude. Following their dream of singing, they form their own group titled Women in Singing. With luck and perseverance things look up when they are invited to take part in a big event in New York.

"Set in a rehearsal space, and featuring an all-female multi-racial cast and band, our new show is humorous, energetic, entertaining and educational," says script writer and director Zeph Nzama. "Women in Singing aims to inform all women in our society of the opportunities they have the right to enjoy after 20 years of freedom and democracy," says Nzama whose motivational show carries a message that with a steadfast attitude to making the most of life, people can achieve their dreams.

"Progress has been made in recent times with the empowerment of women. Many organisations now have females in leadership positions. However, there is still an ongoing need to keep getting the message across that women are entitled to respect and equal opportunities along with their male counterparts."

Booking is through Computicket outlets at Shoprite Checkers, by phone on 0861 915 8000 or online at https://www.computicket.com. Bookings can also be made via the Playhouse Box Office on 031 369 9540 (office hours). Tickets are R85 per person. Block bookings of 10 or more are R75 per person. Performances are at 7pm (Wednesday to Saturday) with additional 3pm matinee performances on Saturday and Sunday, 14 and 15 June.
