Through My Eyes

Through My Eyes

I have come across many inspirational people in my life; it is one of the reasons why I love my job so much. If you look through the pages of The Bugle you will see that it is jam packed with fabulous individuals doing amazing things.

One of my big inspirations is a local doctor, Dr. Dinesh Patel, who in a short space of seven years has become a legend in our small north coast community.

On a personal level he has been a rock, but this is not about me this is about thousands of people that have felt his deep compassion for humanity.

As a trauma doctor at Alberlito Hospital, Dino, as he is affectionately known, faces the greatest tragedies. People involved in accidents, heart attack and stroke victims. People on the brink of death, he is always there assuring you that he will do whatever it takes to save lives.

At his farewell last weekend, the nursing staff gathered to pay respects to the doctor they so love and respect. There were many tears as each person stood up to share their views on the person who has done so much for the local community.

When Dr Patel spoke he assured his colleagues that his commitment to Ballito was on track. He is moving to Sand Hill Park, situated just a few meters above the Alberlito Hospital.

The move to private practice is something that Dino has wanted to do for a while. He will be taking with him some of his colleagues, Dr. Manny Thandrayan, Dr. Alan Moodley and Dr Jacob Mpathswe, who like him have the best interests of the patient at heart. They will be offering GP orientated services with urgent care assistance.

Dr. Patel is married to the lovely Dr. Amisha Patel, the anaesthesiologist at Alberlito Hospital, and is also looking for some extra family time with his five year old daughter.

I have at least a dozen tales of greatness from friends who have laid their trust in Dr. Patel's hands on countless occasions he was directly responsible for saving lives.

There are very few committed doctors left in this world; sadly most doctors have become businessman in our world of demanding financial pressures. However Dr. Patel has managed to keep the core of his profession authentic. His patient's wellbeing is what drives him to be better and more accessible.

It does not matter if its Sunday lunch or a weekday night, Dr. Patel is always on call for his patients and if you can't come to him he will come to you.

If you are looking for a doctor of substance and compassion you don't have to look any further, Dr. Patel is a doctor friend that is going to be there for you no matter what.
