Durban Diabetes Walk

Durban Diabetes Walk

Date: 2013-11-22
Sunday, November 17 saw a pleasing turnout of walkers participating in the Durban leg of the Diabetes SA 5km Global Walk supported by ProNutro. The enjoyable 5km walk took participants from the amphitheatre to the Tropicana Hotel and back.

With just over 2500 people taking part, the annual event was seen as a huge victory according to the branch manager, Jenny Russell of Diabetes SA in Durban; she could not get over the turnout and the support that this event received from the community at large. "I am thrilled that people in general are taking an interest in creating a healthier lifestyle for themselves and the response from businesses and schools has been phenomenal", she added!

Kyle Cooper, brand ambassador for Diabetes SA, who unfortunately could not walk the race as he was recovering from a recent operation, but was able to attend on crutches and offer his support, echoed Russell's sentiments. "It's great to see Durbanites coming together and lending their support to this event and hosting such an event in turn creates further awareness to this disease", he added!

The first 1500 walkers back at the finish received a goodie-bag, as well as the chance to win over R50000 in lucky draw prizes courtesy of the Gooderson Leisure Hospitality Group.

Many of the participants and supporters also took advantage of the free services the Lifestyle Wellness Expo which provided them with the opportunity to test their glucose, BMI, kidney function and blood pressure. There were also lifestyle brands on site and the chance to participate in further exercise demonstrations with Lisa Raleigh and other fitness trainers.
