Through My Eyes

Through My Eyes

Author: Kasia Yoko
Date: 2021-10-20

Never too young to build an empire... never too old to chase a dream...

Recently I embarked on a massive detour from the happy comfort zone I found myself in. The detour is a huge mental adjustment; it will take lots of motivation, energy and willpower. It will take me to a place that is not familiar and frankly; so scary.

50 Days sober today and counting. 50 days of training and mindfulness. 50 days of solid reflections and my journey is not getting any lighter, in fact the pain is at it worse and the urge to have a party, at its all time high. But I'm not a quitter; I'm made of tough things, I can do this.

You see, if there is one thing I have learned through this pandemic is that no one is coming to save me, no one is going to pick me off that couch and shake me up. There is no quick fix for my slumber; the only way to do it is to propel myself to move forward.

It seemed simple at the time but it is not so easy. As sad as it seems there is no easy way to do this and it comes down to raw reality; 'It's your job to do the crap you don't want to do, so you can be what you're suppose to be'.

Believe it or not I was parking off here, waiting 'to feel like it'. But guess what? I was never never going to. The longer I stayed 'chilling' on the couch, the more difficult it was becoming to get off and do something constructive.

The truth really is that no one's coming. No one. I've learned it from Tik-Tok. 'No one's coming to push you; no one's coming to tell you to turn the TV off; No one's coming to tell you to get out the door and exercise; no one is going to tell you to apply for that job that you've always dreamt of; no one is coming to write that business plan for you. It's all up to you.'

A lot of us put off our dreams, the things we want to achieve most, until that elusive "someday... " . We tell ourselves the time isn't right to change how I'm living and chase my dream. Years go by; the voice in our head continues to rattle off the reasons not to start chasing our dreams. Those reasons then grow into the belief that "it's too late to pursue our dream" and then that dream dies. Left to be filed under "What if?" and buried in a heap of regret. The path of self-reliance is the only true reliable one. It's a stark, even dark message implying that, in fact, every man is an island - and yet it's also somehow liberating to have the illusion of a "saviour" stripped away.

Author Jennifer Lannolo adopts the phrase 'No One is Coming' An Empowerment Manifesto, in which she outlines the methodology she calls, 'Self Directed Empowerment' - the key realisation in taking responsibility is that 'no one is coming', and at its core, this is truly frightening. However once this reality settles, you can accept it as the best news ever. So by accepting that no one is coming to fix it, to fix you or give you the answers, you are in control to make all your dreams come true. And how? you may ask? Well in my case it was by getting off the couch and pushing myself into action.

Here's the thing: it's never too late to start chasing your dreams. You are never too much or too little of anything. Don't put off starting to work toward your dream; don't do that to yourself. If you have a dream, join me, lets do it together!
