Get connected with the exciting high school programme offered at DGC - EVERGREEN!

Date: 2013-02-21
Durban Girls College was founded in 1877 and home to 820 girls from Grade R to Grade 12, College has a proud past and an exciting future. They aim to produce a poised, confident young woman who makes her mark in her own country and abroad. The school comfortably accommodates this millennium's digital generation and is proud of its multi-cultural mix. The entire school has wi-fi connectivity and we have embarked upon an exciting iPad programme.

College House, the school residence, lies at the heart of the school and boarding at College offers the best of both worlds. Approximately sixty girls spend four or five nights a week in this weekly boarding home-from-home, close to all the school's facilities. Gleaming new dorms, beautiful bathrooms, redecorated lounges and coffee lounges all in a garden setting create a relaxed, ambient environment.

The IEB matric examination results were exceptionally good, with a 100% pass rate and 84 out of 85 attaining a Bachelor's degree pass. 70% of the subject symbols were A or B symbols, with five pupils in the top 5% nationally, two achieving this in six subjects and three in five subjects.

DGC and its community have welcomed aboard a new headmaster, Thomas Hagspihl.

Mr H is a charismatic man who challenges the girls to strive for excellence in all that they do, while recognising the uniqueness of each girl and encouraging individual talents.

Sporting results in 2012 were also outstanding with a 7th consecutive win in the D&D A Gala as well as winning the national aquatics gala. The soccer team went on its first tour - to Cape Town. The swimming team heads for China in June.

We have extensive contacts with exchange schools in Canada, Australia, the USA and Scotland and the College academic standard is accepted globally.

College is a school where lifelong friendships are formed in an atmosphere of love and discipline. A girl with a College education will be able to hang her hat anywhere.

Our 2014 entrance assessments are being held on Friday 15 March 2013. Based on those results, girls will be invited to write the academic scholarship exams. In addition to the academic scholarships, a limited number of bursaries and scholarships are available to girls entering Grade 8 who have sporting, cultural or musical talent, or who wish to board. Application forms are available from Debbie McWilliam on 031 2687250 or dmcwilliam@dgc.co.za
