Dress a Child Campaign

Dress a Child Campaign

Date: 2013-02-21
KwaDukuza Mayor Ricardo Mthembu has commended educators and local leaders for the successful roll-out of his 'Dress a Child Campaign 2013.'

The Mayor engaged in a series of well-organized school uniform programme held in collaboration with councilors, educators, pupils, parents and guardians, all from the local communities.

KwaDukuza Municipality last Thursday handed out its last set of school uniforms to the underprivileged schools in the area.

Since January this year, Mayor Mthembu, has been visiting some of the underprivileged primary schools in a bid to dress-up indigent learners.

The programme dubbed the 'Mayoral Dress a Child Campaign 2013' has helped dress-up more than 150 primary school learners from fifteen (15), local schools.

The Mayor officially delegated his municipal officials to hand-over the last set of 30 school uniforms to Padayachee, Maguyana and Isinembe Primary Schools.

'Ward Councillors and school heads have played an instrumental role in identifying the most deserving learners, said the Mayor.

He, (Mthembu) further commended the commitment of Ward Councilors and educators for the successful rolling out of this programme.

He was also quoted as saying, 'I commend school educators and Municipal officials who offered their helping hand in driving this programme. This has shown the level of responsibility and commitment that school teachers have in education.'

'Committing to this programme is part of the government's long standing priority, education for all. Since the roll-out of this program, we have learnt with great delight that our local leadership is fully committed to delivery and truly understands the key areas that need serious government attention. Our Municipal leaders cannot remain complacent about these developments,' he said.

'The business community cannot be isolated in the drive to ramp-up the quality of education; we will welcome sponsorships from such people in driving education initiatives in future,' he concluded.
