The Ford Ranger Raptor has a reputation that seems to have sped ahead of itself, the power, the performance, the luxury and the technological advancement. And did I mention the power. After that is said and done, the Ranger Raptor still produces a refined air of grace and quality, despite the throaty growl when you start the 2.0-litre BiTurbo diesel engine.
Despite its dominant size, the Raptor still managed refinement in power delivery and the interior had me thinking I was in a luxury with the Mountain Top lockable black roller shutter that covered the bin and locked very securely.
However it was when I went off the smooth road surfaces that the Raptor really showed what it is made of and for. The FOX Position Sensitive Damping (PSD) shock absorbers, which were custom made for the Raptor, worked in conjunction with Ford's Terrain Management System (TMS), which includes a thrilling Baja mode that was inspired by Mexico's famous Baja Desert Rally, took out almost all the discomfort and gave traction to wheels that should have been in the air at times.
I took the Raptor out on the freeway and had to hold on tight to the steering wheel. It seemed as if the Raptor wanted to run away, over the horizon, it was very comfortable at high speeds on the open road. All in all it is a legend that is about to morph once again in an ever increasing improvements. If you have the nerve, get a Raptor.
