Shabangu, who works as a quality assessor for an insurance company, envisions his website to be a platform between producers and recording artists.
The 25-yeard-old from Hammarsdale township came up with the idea after producing his own music. "It will connect musicians looking for mixes with producers who make it. They will be able to listen to the music online, and if they like it, pay a fee to download it," Shabangu said. A portion of the sale will be retained by the business and the remainder, paid to the artist. The creative thinker will use his R50 000 winnings from Hansa's Special Ingredient Search to pay for website design, buy a laptop and a headset.
Shabangu joins the ranks of Siyabonga Mbutho from Flagstaff in the Eastern Cape, Kholofelo Mokakabye from Pretoria and Mzukisi Mbane of Cape Town who have been chosen as winners by judges chef Citrum Khumalo and businessman and entrepreneur Lebo Gunguluza in Hansa's Special Ingredient search as they toured the country.
"Once the judges have completed the final events in Johannesburg and Bloemfontein, one overall winner out of the six regional winners to join SAB's Kickstart Foundation, which provides business training, business mentorship and start-up capital to entrepreneurs with promising businesses," said Khensani Nobanda, General Manager of Hansa Pilsener.
The SA Breweries Kickstart Foundation is SAB's youth entrepreneurship development programme that identifies the need for the private sector in helping to grow a productive South African economy. SAB KickStart has attracted hundreds of applications from young and aspiring entrepreneurs across South Africa and one lucky winner of the Special Ingredient search competition will join the Foundation.
As for Shabangu, he is hoping that his part-time website becomes his full-time job. "I'm tired of making money for someone else," he said.
