Urban Descent Downhill Longboard Race

Urban Descent Downhill Longboard Race

Date: 2014-04-25
The 2014 edition of Urban Descent is set for Sunday the 4th of May in Glenwood, Durban and will once again be proudly presented by Quiksilver and Gunslinger. Over 70 eager competitors from all over South Africa are expected to enter this year's race that will see riders descending the race course at speeds of up to 70km per hour.

The race route begins in Maze Road descending right into J.B Marks Road (old Chelmsford) towards Glenwood Boys High School along Alan Paton Road. The route is over one kilometre and consists of several chicanes with an abundance of hay bales carefully situated as a safety precaution.

"We are excited to once again be teaming up with Gunslinger for this race, the response from last year's race was phenomenal, were expecting to see a bigger crowd and some faster, more competitive racing this year," said Quiksilver marketing and sales manager Dane Patterson.

In the inaugural event, held in October last year, Jason Browne of Port Elizabeth stole the show in the premier men's open division ahead of Stephen Hayes of Durban and Ricki Allardice of Cape Town. A bigger field of experienced riders is expected at this year's event and racing is sure to be faster and fiercer with some heavy bails and wipe-outs anticipated.

The day's racing kicks off with several rounds of qualifying, starting at 09h00. Age divisions consist of Open Mens, Junior Boys 1 (8-14 yrs), Junior Boys 2 (15-17 yrs) and Open Ladies. Entries to participate in the event are open to the public at R150 per division and entry forms are available online at:https://www.quiksilver.co.za/urbandescent.
