Lucky Durban couple give birth to healthy baby girl

Lucky Durban couple give birth to healthy baby girl

Date: 2013-01-31
Priscilla and Brendon Noziac, the lucky Durban couple who last year unexpectedly received an all expenses paid birth at the private Netcare Umhlanga Hospital, celebrated the birth of their little baby, Alaina Francoise, last month.

Alaina is the couple's first baby, and they could barely contain their excitement at the arrival of the new member to their family, says Shaun Ryan, General Manager of the hospital. Alaina, who weighed in at a healthy 3.35kg, was delivered by gynaecologist and obstetrician, Dr Carlos Hartmann. Priscilla has been in Dr Hartmann's care since September last year.

"We are absolutely delighted at the birth of our little bundle of joy," says an overjoyed Brendon. "Priscilla was admitted to the hospital last Friday night with high blood pressure and I was a little concerned. However, the birth went well and we have been truly blessed with a healthy baby."

"Monday was an emotional day not only for my wife and I, but our families as well," he continues. "Everyone had been looking forward to the birth. We have given Alaina her second name Francoise in honour of my sister. Francoise was a double lung and heart transplant recipient who passed away in 2007. She is greatly missed and I know she would have given anything to be here with us today."

The couple, who do not have medical aid and struggling to raise funds necessary for their child's delivery, were given the all expenses paid birth by Mandy and Connor von Berg of Kloof. The Von Bergs won the paid for birth as part of a prize in a competition at last year's MamaMagic Baby Expo in Durban. Priscilla and Brendon, who were runners up in the competition, expressed their gratitude to Mandy, Connor and Netcare Umhlanga Hospital.

"Last year Mandy and Connor called and offered us the all expenses paid birth," adds Brendon. "They had already made prior arrangements for the birth of their own baby and said they did not need the prize. Priscilla and I had only recently been married and were very concerned about how we were going to afford the birth. The prize was a great gift that provided us with the opportunity of having our baby come into the world in a leading private maternity hospital."

Netcare Umhlanga Hospital arranged for the two couples, whose destinies were brought together by the common bond of pregnancy, to get together after the birth of Alaina. "It was a lovely experience," says Priscilla. "Mandy and Connor's baby, Ella is already ten weeks old and is beautiful. We are so grateful to them and wish them all the very best for the future."

Shaun Ryan says that the staff and management of Netcare Umhlanga Hospital are thrilled at the birth of little Alaina Francoise and wish the family well. "It was a grand privilege for us to have been a part of this heart warming story and we are glad we could assist in making this wonderful couple's dream come true."
