It's not about the pieces but how they work together

It's not about the pieces but how they work together

Date: 2018-08-31

Ashton International College is an English, co-educational, independent college with a Christian Ethos. We offer the Best of Both Worlds, the IEB (Independent Examinations Board) and Cambridge International Assessment Education (CAIE) curricula.

We have had tremendous success with both these curriculi, recording a 100% pass rates. In 2017, six students clinched 7 distinctions on the IEB curriculum, and one nine distinctions, and placed in the top 1% nationally for Outstanding Achievement in seven examinable subjects and Life Orientation, whilst our top Cambridge A level student was rewarded for his hard work with 5 distinctions in his five examinable subjects.

Our slogan "Uniquely Different" is exactly that, and we are excited about offering Consumer Studies next year - the first school on the North Coast to offer this subject choice.

Ashton believes in developing each child to their full potential, therefore Sport and Culture are considered just as important as Academics. To nurture this talent, the 1000 seater Grace Hall is equipped with a magnificent stage, full LED screen, state of the art sound and lighting equipment.

Construction of a second multi-purpose 2000 seater hall is progressing and will serve the Junior College on the cultural side, as well as being utilised as an indoor sports facility with an internationally approved indoor hockey arena.

The first two phases of the new Sports Campus have been completed, comprising two new full size rugby fields and a turf cricket pitch. The FIH approved water-based Rhinoturf has contributed to the outstanding success of the hockey teams this year. In addition Ashton boasts a FIFA approved soccer field and a heated pool, which is home to the Ashton Swimming Academy.

We protect and uphold our founding Christian ethos and principles. We continually strive for academic excellence, find ways to enrich the curriculum and make learning relevant in our fast changing world. Learning how to think creatively is a basic skill, which all our students are going to need, but globally, is in danger of being side-lined and replaced with more assessment tasks and paper-based learning.

We recognize all children have different learning styles and we are excited at the prospect of our students having the opportunity to be supported as persistent, inquisitive beings. We are working tirelessly to encourage 'grit' in our children where we prepare the child for the path, rather than prepare the path for the child.

The Reggio Amelia-based learning style with creative studios adjoining each classroom, has been introduced and this learning concept forms part of the cognitive educational development and encourages learning in different ways. We also believe that the development of a child's EQ is equally important. Our educational philosophy is to build character to support the holistic development of our students.

Dylan Somerville, Sarah Brand and Jival Bodlall were all awarded Honours for participating at the SA National Youth level swimming and representing the 1st Swimming team.
