Branded as 'No Other Show Brings More African Exhibitors Together', the annual jamboree in tourism and travel, and also dubbed as the 'soul of Africa's' tourism sector, gets into its stride at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre, from May 9 to 11. But Friday is when the warm-up begins with networking on the golf course, the media being feted by the Airports Company and VIP guests enjoying an exclusive dining-on-wheels experience on board South Africa's high-end export, The Blue Train.
Marketing manager Herbert Masheula confirmed that the Blue Train was among the corporate travel exhibitors at Africa's largest travel trade show: "As is customary The Blue Train will be at the show and we will also be taking one of our train sets for a memorable dinner for a select group of tourism and travel people from home and abroad and the media on board.
VIP guests, including KwaZulu-Natal's MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Ambassador Nomusa Dube-Ncube, who oversees 61 municipalities, will be treated to an elegant evening during a six-hour round trip from Durban to the South Coast.
Executive Manager Hanlie Kotze will host dignitaries and celebrities to five-star cuisines and expensive drinks and cocktails as the train steams down the coast and rolls back, an experience that is bound to impress foreign buyers and exhibitors wanting to give overseas travellers a first-hand experience of the royalty of the railroad in all its blue and gold trimmings.
For the golfers, delegates will tee-off at the Golf Networking Day, in a shotgun start at 11am at the Durban Country Club. After a round golf at R950 a pop, golfers will be treated to dinner at the awards ceremony. On Saturday, the colourful cacophony of sights and sound goes on show. The expo attracts thousands of buyers, exhibitors and media. It is the industry's definitive tradeshow that showcases the best platform to do business aimed at fast-tracking Africa's tourism revenue streams. Exhibitors represent a microcosm of the rich tapestry and diversity of authentic South African and Africa leisure, wildlife and hospitality.
