Saving the Rhino with Umhlanga Business Women and Kingsley Holgate
Kingsley has an amazing story to share with his audience. Having travelled extensively throughout the world and he can tell stories so vividly that you can almost smell the charcoal of the campfire.
The plight of our Rhinos is a campaign that Kingsley takes very seriously.
"In April 2013 Project Rhino KZN partnered with the Kingsley Holgate Foundationin the Izintaba Zobombo Expedition Kingsley Holgate and his expedition team travelled over the Lubombo Range of Mountains, across the Kruger National Park and its nearby private reserves, crossed the fence line to the Rhino War Zone along the border with Mozambique and through the nature reserves of Swaziland, into Northern KZN.
This block has the largest concentration of wild rhino populations in the world and theexpeditionwas able to undertake the most comprehensive children's education survey ever carried out through Rhino Conservation Art and soccer matches. Never before have so many thousands of school children had been given the opportunity to have voice how they feel about the rhino-poaching crisis. Well over 10 000 pieces of Rhino Art were collected.
The objective of the project is to gather the largest number of 'Children's Art Voices' ever recorded in support of rhino protection and to use these 'Hearts and Minds' messages from the children of Africa as a worldwide call to action against rhino poaching.
'Rhino Art' is aimed at schools closest to National Parks and Game Reserves - a worrying fact is that less than 2% of the children at these schools have seen a rhino in the wild."
"UWA, the (Umhlanga Women Achievers) association was founded in 1994, and is a networking organisation that meets on a monthly basis at the Gateway Hotel. The UWA members focus on building relationships, which in turn leads to friendships as well as business contacts. In 1995 they adopted the slogan "to grow together through networking, sharing and enthusiasm". As the organisation is non-profit, they have committed to performing monthly random acts of kindness throughout the year for various charities. So far this year Durban Child & Youth Care centre, Hillside Haven, Entembeni School, Melody ECD Centre and Project Rhino KZN have been chosen."
The UWA (Umhlanga Women Achievers) were successful in collecting R50 000 for Kingsley's initiative. Well done, UWA, Esther Bishop and the Top Carpets team.
