What's The Issue?

What's The Issue?

Author: Tomas Yoko

Georgios Katrougalos spoke out about the Greek crisis and how this country, where democracy was invented, was not seeking to exit the European Union, rather to become part of a European Union that did not stand for austerity but rather an EU that stands for democracy accepting their social responsibility. George, as he is affectionately known by me, spoke wisely about debt relief, the German economic miracle, something Greece practiced with Germany after the second world war.

Well all the panic seems have been to no avail and sense must now surely prevail while they thrash out a deal. Anyway, I want to raise a toast to the Greek people, I want to sing their praises for showing us the way, the true meaning of democracy, and credit to Alexis Tsipras, the prime minister with goons. He gave the decision over to his people, a lesser leader would have just signed the austerity measures and committed his people to a lifetime of more poverty and slavery.

It is about time that "We the People" started to mean something to our leaders. It is about time that "We the People" stood up against the Banksters and conniving leaders who are sewing the ropes of our slavery tighter and tighter with every newscast. The war mongering mindless leaders who control everything from our money supply to our water resources, our choice of self destructive energy sources over sustainable free energy from the sun.

I hope this is the beginning of people standing up against exploitation and war. We all need to take a leaf out of the Greek people's book and apply it to our thinking. Despot leaders who cling to power through military might so that the oil barons can reap the billions out from under the people's noses. We as a race need to put a stop to this legacy.

Just from an environmental perspective, for instance, the landfills in Johannesburg will be full within a few years, if we do not start recycling in earnest, on a national scale, we will be swimming in our own trash. We will not be swimming in our swimming pools because there will be no water left. And at the rate that the Government is paying off employees and handing out golden handshakes there will be no money left to feed the cows that give us milk.

The department of forestry and fishery paid over six million Rand in 2009, the Police paid out thirty million, mostly in lumps of four and one million. The National Treasury has paid out nearly twenty one million since 2008 and we certainly expected better from them. The railways paid out sixteen million, the ports paid out over two million to one employee. It appears that if you work for the government the best thing that can happen to you is to get fired.

That is just to buy people out of their jobs, often just to make way for the latest political favour. Like our dependency on oil, it is not sustainable.

Give us real democracy, give us the vote.
