Revisiting Travel Destinations and Tourism Champion ? Charles Nkuba Tanzania Awaits You

While my host enjoyed the pleasures of resort life, I was assigned to a guide who would quickly become a friend. Charles Nkuba Masanja was working at the resort, he spoke half decent English and was chosen to escort me around the island.
For a week, we explored magical Stone Town together, we visited homes and spoke to locals. Charles never tired of answering my incessant questions and assisted in all my extraordinary requests. I was interested in local culture, the language, the customs, their foods and traditions and each day at 8am, Charles and I met at the entrance of the resort and we would plan our escape for the day.
While wondering around the island we spoke of our dreams and aspirations. We were both at the start of our careers, Charles in hospitality and I in publishing, however we both knew that we wanted to get to be the best at what we do.
After I left, Charles did not stay long at the Zanzibar Resort. He went on to live out his dreams, meeting a beautiful Dutch woman, he travelled to Holland where he completed courses and workshops and sharpened his trade. Charles gained enough confidence to return to Tanzania with his intention to open a tourism and hospitality company called ?Rukaki Adventure Tours and Safaris?. You will still find it appearing in Lonely Planet and Rough Guide to Tanzania books. Over the years I followed Charles? success from a distance on Facebook. The feeling of pride still squeezes my chest when I think about the shy young Swahili man who protected me from hostile glares. Zanzibar is predominantly a Muslim country and the sight of my camera was not much welcomed there. Charles introduced me to street coffee vendors and the men who frequent them. He made me love the life path I have chosen.
Twenty one years later, the kind and generous KZN Industrialist is sadly no longer with us, but Charles Nkuba Masanja is climbing the ladder of success, he recently reopened his tourism business under a new name ?Meremasa Royal Legacy Tours and Safaris Company?. He has a strong voice in the Tanzanian Tourism Sector and is instrumental in rebuilding the Covid-19 savaged tourism industry in his country.
If you are reading this article and think, ?Oh how marvellous it would be to travel to Tanzania??
