Simbithi Eco-Book Fair

Simbithi Eco-Book Fair

Author: Anivesh Singh
Date: 2023-01-31
Actor, author and impressario Hamish Kyd will headline the Simbithi Eco-Book Fair at the north coast estate on Saturday, 28 September starting at noon. The event is part of the build-up to the 2023 Durban International Book Fair which takes place in August at Suncoast's iconic Globe Theatre.

Heritage publisher Anivesh Singh welcomed the participation of Simbithi in the programme saying that Durban's accolade as a UNESCO City of Literature was enriched by local communities coming together to promote reading and literature. "The Durban Book Fair was set up as an NPO in 2018 to support the city, authors, poets and performing artists to use the UNESCO platform to reach a global stage, added Singh.

Kyd's books and radio plays have received national acclaim as "tapping the heartbeat of Durban's diverse cultures". He will speak about his work at 3pm following by a ticketed supper theatre programme featuring various well-known local singers. "Artists needed to go to where the people are so that we can all reduce our carbon footprint yet enjoy good literature and theatre on our doorsteps," added Kyd.

Paul David and others recent book The Indian Africans is also on the programme at 2pm accompanied by an exhibition of historical images. While several writers are already listed on the programme, the organisers invite more authors and poets especially from the north coast to participate and market their books at the fair. Entrance to the book fair and participation in the programme is free.

Authors working on environmental, flora and fauna themes are especially urged to come forward. The organisers may be reached on 0837781991 or director@durbanbookfair.co.za.
