From Storm To Splendour - Gianni's Is Back

From Storm To Splendour - Gianni's Is Back

Author: Tomas Yoko
Date: 2019-08-23

On the evening of the 18th of April 2019 a mini hurricane ripped through the dolphin Coast, wrecking havoc on trees, buildings, signage and anything the storm could get its hands on.

In the process, Gianni's restaurant, which was well patronised that evening as usual, took the full brunt of the storm, which ripped out large panes of glass and sent roof structures flying. The ensuing damage left the popular Dolphin Coast restaurant mangled and strewn with debris. It was nothing short of a disaster.

The owner of Gianni's, John Coburn, immediately set about resurrecting his restaurant, taking the opportunity to expand and improve wherever he could. He added a lookout deck, which has been christened "Titanic II, Unsunk", and he has revamped the entire restaurant including the terrazza, where the outdoor atmosphere will have you believing you're in Italy, or Montenegro or anywhere in the world.

Gianni's recently reopened, to the delight of the regulars and the visitors to Ballito. Gianni's retained the Italian Mediterranean flair we have all came to love. The menu survived the storm and is still filled with all our favourites and one or two added delights. John says we can look forward to fantastic daily weekly and monthly specials.

The wine list is beaten only by the stunning sea views from almost every seat and the bar area sports seductive draught beer taps, dripping with condensation.

Gianni's Restaurant is at 17 Compensation Beach Road in the heart of Ballito. You can call them on 032 946 3217 or 083 414 8372 to book your favourite seat.
