IN AID OF THE NELSON MANDELA CHILDREN'S FUND

IN AID OF THE NELSON MANDELA CHILDREN'S FUND

Date: 2013-12-20
Following the passing of Nelson Mandela, Richard Pratt, a young artist in Cape Town, is donating the proceeds of his portrait of Madiba to the Nelson Mandela Childrens fund.

Richard explains, "Hearing about the death of Mandela didn't come as a surprise. It was sad news, but his was a timely death. I can only make a feeble attempt to imagine his circumstances due to apartheid. Personally, this only reinforces my respect for a man who managed to transcend not only his oppressors, but himself, and become a shining example of the altruistic tendencies that all human beings are capable of."

Richard concludes by stating, "No doubt, he left me inspired. Upon hearing the news of his passing, I decided to pay tribute to his legacy by painting a portrait of him and donating the proceeds to the Nelson Mandela Children's Fund."

The auction of the portrait, a 800mm by 600mm oil painting, will be hosted online on https://www.the-salesroom.com, an online arts and antiques auction website starting at 11am (GMT) on 13 December 2013 and concluding on 19 December 2013 at 3pm (GMT).
