Round 5 AutObarn Superhatch Dezzi Raceway 11 August

Author: Brett Garland
Date: 2018-07-27

Fans can expect another action packed 2 heats from the AutObarn SuperHatch drivers at the Dezzi Raceway as the series reaches its halfway mark

The AutObarn SuperHatch action will continue at round 5 next month at the popular Dezzi Raceway KwaZulu Natal South coast. Leading the series overall is Zane van Zyl B class Credit Guarantee VW Golf followed by Louis Scholtz Car Care Clinic Honda Civic class B and class C Almero van Eck Nosler VW Polo.

Current Class A leader Brett Garland AutObarn/ Total/ Sabat/ Ingco/Honda Civic is determined to make it a two-race win for the 5th round after his disappointing round 4 at the Midvaal circuit.

Despite not scoring in round 4 Garland has a narrow lead over arch rival Jonathan du Toit Trans Africa Racing Honda Civic the clash between these two drivers is sure to continue to the very last race as it has been for the last 3 years, Werner Pieterse holds a comfortable 3rd place in this class

Zane van Zyl Credit Guarantee VW Golf leads the class B from Louis Scholtz Car Care Clinic Honda Civic and Melanie Spurr G&H/ Wealth Ave/ AKA/ Castrol/VW Polo. With Almero van Eck Nosler VW Polo who heads up the C class from Tony Hyams Building Code Consultants Ford Fiesta and Reno van Heerden KWC VW Polo.

The unusual scoring in the AutObarn SuperHatch series and inverted grid that sees the top drivers who have won previous races/heats move to the 2nd and 3rd row of the grid and allows the class B and C drivers to mix it with the class A drivers. Making it much tougher for the quicker class A drivers who must fight their way through traffic and desperately stay out of trouble.

It may make for great competitive door to door racing for the spectators, but many think that the rules are tough on the quicker class A drivers, class B and C drivers can win the series and never cross the line is first place on the day. Points to date after 4 rounds sees 9 of the class B and C drivers in the top 12 overall positions. The three fastest drivers hold 7th, 8th and 10th spot after 4 rounds.
