The Audi you never knew you wanted

The Audi you never knew you wanted

When in the market for a car that starts at a price of just over R2 200 000.00 (before optional extras, mind you), your choices are arguably as difficult as coming up with the money in the first place. The RS7 Sportback might not have crossed your mind before. If so, I am here to change that. Competing with the likes of Mercedes' AMG GT63s or BMW's M5, the bar is set quite high at this price point. At first glance, the RS7Õs girth demands respect and grabs the attention of any unsuspecting onlookers. 21-inch wheels come standard and the eye is unwittingly drawn to their low-profile enormity with their striking accentuated wheel arches. The front and rear of the RS7 are complemented by honeycomb patterns, which I find quite appealing and perhaps the most aesthetic features are the freestanding windows, which are all beautiful in their placement as well as size. Looks aside, the car is a marvel of modern engineering, air suspension, rear-wheel turning and a powerful V8 engine, coupled to Audi's smart 8-speed Tiptronic automatic gearbox, all this coming as standard. The car smashes the 0-100Km/h in an advertised 3.6 seconds. And even with all this power, the car manages to conserve fuel depending on different power needs, this smart engine is able to switch to only four of the eight cylinders to conserve fuel. As always with Audi, with great power comes great safety technology. The braking system has a whopping ten piston per calliper configuration that will safely bring any unwanted speed down quickly. It also comes standard with a 1-year warranty and a 5 year/ 100 000km Audi Freeway Maintenance Plan. All in all, the car is a personal favourite of mine in this class, and a solid choice for anyone in the market for a car that would make even the most distinguished of neighbours seethe with jealousy.
