TATA TIAGO - SMALL CAR, SURPRISINGLY CLEVER DECISION Road Report - The Bugle KZN

TATA TIAGO - SMALL CAR, SURPRISINGLY CLEVER DECISION Road Report - The Bugle KZN

Look, we know what you drive on the weekend. We are not here to talk about that.

This is about the other car. The one that does the school run, collects the dry cleaning, nips down to Ballito for a flat white and somehow always ends up being the vehicle everyone actually wants to use. The sensible one. Except the Tiago is not remotely sensible in the way you might expect - it is sensible in the way that quietly delights you every single day.

Beneath that unassuming bonnet lives an inspirational 1.2-litre three-cylinder engine producing 63 kW and 113 Nm. Enough to dispatch the estate speed bumps with dignity and merge onto the N2 without requiring a leap of faith. It is not theatrical. It is not trying to be. It is simply very, very good at being a car.

Fuel consumption of 5.0 L/100 km means your monthly fuel bill becomes almost embarrassingly modest. The kind of number you mention casually and watch people do the mental arithmetic. The 35-litre tank keeps stops at the forecourt mercifully rare.

Inside, the XT delivers a 7-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, reverse camera and hill-hold control. Everything connected, everything considered, nothing unnecessary. Rather like good interior design, actually.

Five-year warranty. Two-year service plan. 125 000 km of covered motoring. The accountant in you will approve wholeheartedly.

And here is where TATA Springfield earns genuine appreciation this Easter. They are offering up to R10 000 cashback on the Tiago and as much as up to R40000 Deal Assistance with the amazing TATA Punch. Not a gimmick, there's no small print requiring a magnifying glass and a law degree. Just a very good deal on a very clever little car.

Sometimes the smartest thing in the driveway costs the least.
