A Beast Is Born - Volkswagen Amarok 3.0 litre V6

A Beast Is Born - Volkswagen Amarok 3.0 litre V6

Author: Tomas Yoko

Besides the refreshed exterior body styling, Volkswagen have unleashed the beast with the latest addition to the Amarok range of derivatives of a muscular 3.0-litre V6165-kilowatt TDI engine.

I had the sublime pleasure of test-driving this new model from Volkswagen and I can tell you in no uncertain terms that this new model, available now from McCarthy Volkswagen Durban, is an inspired, highly capable monster machine.

There are some videos doing the rounds on social media, which show a shoot out between the Amarok and some of its peers, if that's a thing, and the performance of the Volkswagen Amarok V6 three litre double cab left some jaws dropping to the floor.

Having driven this model I can say it is everything that Volkswagen is saying it is. The acceleration is breath taking and the ride is so smooth I had to keep my eye on the speedometer. The eight-speed automatic transmission, combined with Volkswagen's permanent 4MOTION all-wheel drive, is standard on the V6 and performed effortlessly. I was always in the right gear and always had ample power in every situation. Did I mention the 8 Speed gearbox

Imagine these eight gears with the perfect ratio synchronised to the 3.0-litre V6 engine that delivers 165 kilowatts and 550 Newton metres of torque, and offering a 10 second overboost that pushes the output to 180 kilowatts and 580 Newton metres. But let me not bore you with stats, let me tell you of the thrilling zero to a hundred rocket like propulsion that is achieved in just 8 seconds and the top speed of 193 kilometres per hour.
