Taking It To The Limit - New Golf R

Taking It To The Limit - New Golf R

Author: Tomas Yoko
Date: 2017-09-07
With acceleration like a jack rabbit, a chassis as firm as Hulk Hogan's handshake and a finely tuned sports suspension, all you would be wanting to complete the picture is a feisty engine that spits out 213 kilowatts and churns out 380 Newton meters, coupled to a seven speed DSG gearbox with 4Motion permanent four-wheel-drive, and your dreams will be coming true.

Test driving the new Volkswagen Golf R was a hair raising experience, the instant power transfer from my right foot to the tarmac felt almost tactile and then in the same moment the new Volkswagen Golf R delivered sophisticated luxury and comfort with world class technology, not to mention acceptable fuel consumption figures reported at 6.9 litres per 100 kilometres.

Going beyond performance to elements like the physical appearance of the new Golf R and the same theme followed me throughout. The body styling isn't radically different, however the subtle changes did not go unnoticed and neither did the rubber necking from fellow motorists. The accentuated air intakes like flaring nostrils and stylish chrome trim added even more class to the new Golf R.

Safety features start out with Electronic Stability Control with driver steering recommendation, something I was grateful for, and includes a long list of acronyms like ABS, ASR, EDL, EDTC, ESP and includes trailer stabilization for those who might use all that torque for something other than sport. Airbags are everywhere, front, side, curtain and even a driver's knee airbag.

On the inside the new Golf R is resplendent with Volkswagen's Active info display, a twelve inch TFT digital instrument cluster that shows your satnav imagery between the rev counter and the speedometre and then there's the eight inch composition media touch screen that integrates radio, CD, USB, SD, Bluetooth, App-Connect with voice control and eight speakers.

To test drive this amazing new model contact McCarthy Volkswagen Durban on 031 - 367 6767 or visit their showroom at 40 Monty Naicker Street, Durban, and change your life forever.
