Bless-a-granny community support
"The girls hold three market days over the course of the year from which all profits are donated to various charities. As a grade we decide which charities we would like to support. The Bless-A-Granny is always one of our favourites because we feel that the elderly always seem to be left out this time of year. Many of the girls don't have grandparents of their own or they are far away so by doing this they feel they can spoil a grandparent." Says Samantha Beetge, Grade 6 teacher at Our Lady of Fatima.
The Robin Hood Foundation invites the community to be part of the Christmas magic and participate in their 'Bless a Granny & Grandpa' campaign by either buying a personalised gift, baking treats for the visits or coming along to assist with the handing out of presents.
''The elderly folk are so grateful for their much anticipated gifts but are even more appreciative of the time taken to make a fuss over them,'' comments Kim Griffith Jones, co-ordinator of the Robin Hood Foundation. ''For many living in old age homes this is the only gift and only visit they receive the whole year round. We encourage individuals, schools and corporates, like these wonderful girls, to get involved in any way they can,'' concludes Kim.
For more information, or to receive a personalised wish list in order to purchase a gift valued at R150, please contact Kim on 076 612 9060 or email robinhoodfund@telkomsa.net.
