Dube TradePort Offers Secure 'Cloud' Storage

Dube TradePort Offers Secure 'Cloud' Storage

Date: 2014-03-14
Cloud data privacy issues rank amongst the top key concerns for organisations looking to utilise the Cloud for data storage today.

In many countries and in most industries, data privacy regulations apply whenever personally identifiable information is collected and stored. However, when this information resides in the Cloud, it presents a unique challenge because Cloud computing resources are distributed, making it difficult to know where one's data is being stored and who has access to it at any given time.

In South Africa the right to privacy is protected in terms of both common law and in Section 14 of the Constitution. The recognition and protection of the right to privacy as a fundamental human right in the Constitution provides an indication of its importance.

Critically, on 22 August this year the South African Parliament passed the Protection of Personal Information Bill*. Its signing into law by President Jacob Zuma ensures that South Africa enjoys comprehensive data protection legislation.

Dube iConnect, Dube TradePort Corporation's world-class IT and telecommunications platform, offers just such a solution through its two Data Centres. Housed on Dube iConnect infrastructure and managed by DC Data using enterprise open source software.

Dube TradePort Corporation has injected some R90 million into state-of-the-art Information Communication Technology (ICT) infrastructure in order to provide users a highly sophisticated offering.

The provision of virtual computing and hosted services, together with its disaster recovery services, affords Dube iConnect's Cloud a distinct competitive edge in terms of meeting the needs of a wide range of business types and sizes.

Dube iConnect is able to assure those organisations using its services of the safety of data and it's accessibility, given its 99,99% uptime, meaning that in the 8 765,81 hours in a year, the Data Centre is never down for more than four hours.

Dube iConnect operates a Tier 3-compliant Data Centre, spread across two buildings and has built-in redundancy, meaning that if one were to fail the other would seamlessly 'kick-in'. Both centres are located within a precinct with an International Airport providing the benefit of receiving power from two separate sub-stations, ensuring stable power supply and data accessibility.

Currently, seven service providers are located on Dube iConnect premises, namely Telkom, MTN, Vodacom, Neotel, ONEdotCOM, Internet Solutions and EOH Mthombo, who also ensure that organisations using the service enjoy a fail-safe network at all times.
