Through my eyes

Through my eyes

Author: Kasia Yoko

It has been tough couple of days but I keep pushing through. More and more I find that this life is spinning out of control. I know I am not alone, I thank all of you who are out there connecting with me - I thank you for the encouraging words and your sincerity.

Last week was filled with really exciting events. Kingsley Holgate came to Ballito and did his "Around the campfire talk" at the SMD Land Rover dealership. King Goodwill Zwelethini celebrated his birthday in Nongoma. Gala dinners, wine tastings, horse racing, supercars gatherings and fashion shows. It has been such an amazing couple of days, however I am feeling the "all-pooped-out-feeling" coming on and I need to take a day off to recharge and regroup.

One person that always manages to lift my spirits and elevate me is Kingsley Holgate. No matter how many times I attend his events, he is always so topical and fascinating. And yes, I am sure he is feeling somewhat 'pooped' himself, as he just returned from his adventure to the Voodoo Festival in Ouidah, Benin.

Kingsley is such a brilliant African ambassador. He manages to do what he loves and change lives as well. He is involved with the "save the rhino" campaign and travels the African continent lobbying for the rhino conservation and education.

We spoke briefly before he went on stage; I asked him how he manages to keep such a busy schedule to which he replied, "You know Kasia, I just do it. I don't think about it. So many people ask me, 'aren't you scared going to all these places' and I always have to say that fear is the last thing on our minds when we embark on an these expeditions. There are so many other things that we have to focus on, negativity is simply not one of them."

That is so inspirational!

When 'sitting around the campfire' with Kingsley, you can almost hear the lions roaring in the distant and smell the sweet aroma of the Amarula trees. His graphic portrayal of his adventures will inspire even the most cynical individual, to embark on an adventure. He has that aura about him, it is true what they say, Kingsley has the presence of a true explorer.

He is a true example how you can save and improve lives through adventure. His work allows him to make a difference to thousands of people on our continent. No matter how tough the conditions, he does not give up, he makes a plan and moves forward to his final destination.

He is a true inspiration! I want to be like Kingsley when I grow up.
