Seychelles - Paradise Found

In search of that perfect holiday destinations most of us turn to our travel agent for advice. Many times we follow blindly the recommendations from people who it is quite likely have never been to the destination, and often have no idea of our likes and dislikes.

Most of us work hard all year to be able to take some time off, we sacrifice a lot in search of that perfect destination, which represents our dream holiday. With our special feature on Seychelles we hope to take you on a virtual tour of these Islands of paradise and all that they have to offer.

Our trip started on board the very comfortable Air Seychelles flightit is here that we first encountered the perception of the Creole Spirit that followed us around the islands. Creole hospitality and genuine heartfelt generosity was felt from the very first moment we stepped on board.

One of our first visits was to see the minister of tourism for Seychelles Alan St Ange. Having grown up on the island and worked in tourism around the globe for most of his life, Alan couldn't be more helpful. Yet again an openhearted approach and straightforward, honest reception is what we received from the minister.

Alan spoke to us about various holiday options available to South African visitors; he also shared a beautiful story about an American heiress who came on holiday to one of the island resorts that he was managing in the eighties.

"Before this lady arrived I received many calls from representatives in America making sure I understood who was visiting my island." Explains Minister Ange. "I recognized the name but still did not trust when the caller confirmed the visitors details. Only when the local bank governor phoned and confirmed the identity of the auspicious visitor did I realize the magnitude of my visitor's status."

Needless to say when the heiress to one of the biggest banking families in America arrived on Alan's island everyone was ready to receive her. She was well into her nineties and slightly frail but displayed no airs and graces as some celebrities tend to do, Alan told us.

After a couple of days stay on the island the American Heiress approached Alan with a very unique request. "Alan." She said in a soft voice, "You know, ever since I was a little girl I have always dreamt of having a Robinson Crusoe experience." After which she asked if it was possible to sleep on the beach.

Having been briefed about the Heiress, "Make sure she gets everything she asks for" Alan said, "Ok". She wanted her entire bedroom transported to the beach as well as the entire contents of her female companion's bedroom.

Alan agreed to do what the Heiress required, but at some point he thought, what if this was the way the Heiress wanted to exit this world so he prepared a security watch, which sat all night out of sight of the heiress watching her every breath.

In the morning at about eight am, he went to wake her up. He stirred her lightly and she was a light sleeper according to the minister as she awaked a big smile appeared on her face, the minister asked her how she slept to which she replied that it was the best sleep she had in many years, after which the minister advised the Heiress to escape the raising sun and move indoors.

When Minister Alan St. Ange was finished with the story he looked at us and said, "Seychelles holds many fantasies for our visitors, some are looking for adventure while others are looking to be lost in the wilderness, however whatever they are looking for they will find on this island. Its just a matter of finding the right destination."

In the next couple of weeks we will take you on a beautiful journey through the Seychellesinto Mahe, Praslin and La Digue. We will introduce you to some wild characters who have enhanced our journey, some memorable and we will try to entice you to follow in our footsteps to find your own Robinson Crusoe island experience whether you want to step into the wild side of the adventure or are more inclined to take the easy resort route.

Seychelles has everything on its tourism menuall you have to do is sit back and enjoy the stories we have fished out from the depths of the deep turquois ocean for you.
