Peugeot RCZ at Nÿrburgring

Peugeot RCZ at Nÿrburgring

Date: 2012-07-11
The fifth round of the VLN endurance championship Nÿrburgring ended with a one-two in the SP2-T class for Team Peugeot RCZ Nokia. After four hours of racing around a combination of the Grand Prix track short-loop and the Nordschleife Michael Bohrer, Stéphane Caillet and Jÿrgen Nett won by a lap from their team mates Jan Marc Finot, Timo Frings and Julien Rueflin. "The weekend couldn't have gone any better," rejoiced Team Manager Cyrus Ayari. "Pole position, a start-to-finish victory and not a single problem. A huge complement to the entire team."

For the second time after the season opener the drivers in number 392, painted in the French national colours, recorded the best lap in qualifying: with 9m 35.199s Rueflin was around 3.5 seconds faster than the sister car. "It was a great lap with a perfect car," the Frenchman was pleased. "The sun was shining but it wasn't so warm. The Kumho tyres gave me just the grip I needed."

From the start it was, however, the youngest VLN Champion ever that controlled proceedings: Jÿrgen Nett took over the class lead in number 387 from Timo Frings at the wheel of the 392. "I drove particularly fast today so that I didn't miss my plane," said the 45-year old with a wink after his stint. "I want to be with my family again in Mallorca this evening. However, anybody would be happy to interrupt their holiday to race the Peugeot RCZ Racing Cup."

Bohrer in the middle stint and Caillet in the final stint to the flag steered the dynamic Peugeot Sport Coupé to a comfortable victory. "It was particularly nice today that not so many cars started the race today. You had plenty of space, it was great fun to drive," said Bohrer, who set the fastest lap in 9m 33.004s. For the German-French equipe it was the 12th victory from 15 starts in Germany's most popular national racing series.
