Edible Napkin Holders

Edible Napkin Holders

We live in a world drowning in disposables. Most of us recycle, but few stop to calculate our true carbon footprint. Here's a clever idea that's as beautiful as it is sustainable: edible napkin holders.

All it takes is flour, water, yeast, a sprinkle of seeds, and-yes-the humble toilet roll inner (don't panic, it's only the mold!).

You'll need about 300 g of risen bread dough, ready for the oven. I won't share a dough recipe here because if you're a baker, you already have your trusted one. And if you're not, your local grocer sells ready-made bread dough that works perfectly.

Here's how it's done:

1. Wrap empty toilet roll inners tightly in baking paper, making sure to pleat the paper securely so no dough sticks.

2. Roll strips of dough and wrap them around the covered cylinders.

3. Sprinkle with sesame, poppy, or sunflower seeds for a festive touch.

4. Bake until golden brown and crisp.

Once cooled, slide off the baking paper and you'll have sturdy, edible napkin holders-practical, playful, and utterly delicious.

This isn't my original creation; I stumbled across the idea on social media. But it deserves celebrating. And as the festive season draws near, why wait for a grand dinner party? Invite a friend over for a humble bowl of soup, set the table with love, gratitude-and your freshly baked napkin holders.

Because sometimes the simplest ideas bring the greatest joy.
