DHS showcase exhibition of Eva Schloss - The Promise

DHS showcase exhibition of Eva Schloss - The Promise

Date: 2017-06-09

Durban High School will be hosting a travelling exhibition called "The Promise"; in partnership with the Durban Holocaust Centre which will be officially opened on Thursday, June 8th at 17h30. The exhibition will run at Durban High School until Friday, August 18th

The exhibition is a showcase of Eva Schloss - The Promise. Eva Schloss is a Holocaust survivor and the step-sister of Anne Frank. The exhibition tells the story of her family's experience during the Holocaust and is dedicated to her brother, Heinz, who perished during the Holocaust. The intention of this exhibition is teach people the dangers of discrimination and the need to treat refugees with kindness and dignity.

"Our new Headmaster shared, as part of his overall vision for the School, the desire that we would establish a Human Rights Centre at Durban High School. This has nicely integrated with the existing strategy of making DHS a hub for the training of educators and school leaders on the importance of ensuring that our schools are safe places for all.

Over the past two years Durban High School has run workshops with educators, parents and school leaders on building inclusive schools and ensuring that we create environments that produce active and responsible citizens who understand the value of protecting the human rights of all," said Roy Hellenberg, Deputy Headmaster of DHS.

Surrounding schools may bring their learners in groups of no more than 30 at a time to view the exhibition. They will be guided by the DHS Grade 11 History learners.

Groups must make bookings with Erica Goring at erica.goring@durbanhighschool.co.za with bookings for school groups between 08h30 - 16h00.
