Ballito Lifesaving Club Season Started With A Bang

Ballito Lifesaving Club Season Started With A Bang

Date: 2013-11-15
On the 20th of October Kate Theunissen (16), Milla Herbst (12) and Ludwig Herbst (9) took part in the Double Mile Ocean Swim, where they took part in the 400m Challenge. They handled the very rough conditions extremely well with Milla coming 2nd in the Girls event, Kate 3rd and Ludwig 8th in the Boys event. Both events were open, so they competed against swimmers much older and more experienced than them.

On the 3rd of November Ludwig, Janke Spangenberg (10), Chanel Bates (11) and Milla successfully passed their Level 1, 2 and 3 Nipper Exams in Durban. After finishing their exams, Ludwig, Janke and Milla took part in the fun carnival afterwards. Ludwig came 3rd in his first ever bodyboard race and 8th in the surf swim. Janke came 5th in her surf swim race and Milla came 2nd in her surf swim race. They also took part in a fun Taplin relay, where Janke did the run, Ludwig did the bodyboard leg against much older children,Milla the swim and the Nipper Coach, Sarah Baillie, did the Malibu Board leg.

Our Niplets Lauren Bates (6) and Nicola Herbst (7) weren't going to be left out of the action either-while the Nipper exam was happening they were practicing in the surf. Nicola also took part in the Niplet fun carnival.

Ludwig, Milla, Kate as well as Zoe" Frank (11), Megan Bates (16)and Dylan Massey-Hicks (18) are also training hard for KZN Stillwater Lifesaving Trials which will take place next month. Thanks to the Ashton Sports Academy for supporting these children by allowing them totrainin the school pool. 12 Juniors are training hard with Quentin Power for their upcoming Junior Lifeguard and Lifeguard Awards.
