Class T Action

Class T Action

Author: Tomas Yoko
Date: 2014-08-08
Volkswagen's Graeme Nathan managed to snap up pole position in this weekend's Class T challenge, however it was short lived as his arch rival team driver Gary Formato zipped past to take the lead in the first lap with his Ford Focus ST.

Gary could not be stopped or caught, leaving Lee Thompson with the consolation of the third place on the podium with his Castro Mini, behind Nathan. Ford's team leader Shaun Duminy battled along with braking problems but still managed to hold off the attentions of Charl Smalberger's Volkswagen Golf GTi to take fourth place.

Michael van Rooyen showed some promise as a farmer after an off track expedition in his Chevrolet, unfortunately he was plagued by a misfire that kept him out of the race.

Shaun Duminy was once again excluded from the results after a post race check found his Ford Focus ST was producing too much boost. What a problem to have.

The second race upped the ante as the winter dust swirled around the Free State racetrack and Mdakane sped away from pole position in his Mini. Smalberger held the field back somewhat with his start in second place.

Gary Formato pushed his Ford Focus ST to produce some hot contention with Nathan getting involved in the scrap that saw the Class T production cars trading paintwork and decals right down to the last corner, where Nathan managed to squeeze past to take the checkered flag. That leaves the points standing with Graeme Nathan and VW on 97, Michael Van Rooyen and Chevrolet on 75 and Gary Formato and Ford on 65.
